Nexus: A Longmont Young Professionals Group

We’ve pushed the restart button on the young professionals group. The new planning committee has redefined the goals of LACC’s group, now named “Nexus”.

Maddie LaBorde, our Ambassador of the Month, embod

Maddie LaBorde, our Ambassador of the Month, embodies the essence of commitment & community. With over four decades of calling Longmont home, Maddie balances a fulfilling family life with an amazing career. As a devoted wife & mother of two sons, she welcomed her first grandchild last year & shares her home with three pups.

Maddie’s journey with the Chamber began in 2002, when she became a member. Her remarkable tenure at First Bank, spanning 32 years, saw her rise to the role of Senior Treasury Management Specialist, serving commercial customers across Boulder, Longmont, & Firestone. Maddie’s dedication to personalized service led her to pioneer the Treasury Specialist role.

Maddie’s role as an Ambassador truly showcased her dedication to the Chamber. Joining the Ambassador Committee, she witnessed firsthand the transformative impact ambassadors could have. From a modest committee of 10, Maddie’s leadership helped expand the ambassador program to an impressive 40 members. To increase attendance, Maddie introduced the now beloved Ambassador Breakfast. For two years straight, she rose at 4 AM to prepare her famous breakfast casserole, to not only feed Ambassadors but to also foster connections & bring members together. Her efforts earned her recognition with the Ambassador of the Year & Making a Difference Awards.

As Vice-Chair & later Chair of the Ambassador Committee for two consecutive years, Maddie spearheaded initiatives like the annual golf tournament, where her best memories include swinging at oversized marshmallows and hosting members over strings and mulligans.

Maddie’s advice to new ambassadors reflects her passion for engagement and connection. Encouraging newcomers to dive into Chamber activities, she emphasizes the importance of being a warm, welcoming presence & seizing every opportunity to connect. Her dedication to fostering meaningful relationships echoes in her sentiment that the Chamber, and the Ambassador family within it, feels like home.

For Maddie, being an ambassador isn’t just a role; it’s a testament to the power of community and the joy of making lasting connections. Her legacy of service and warmth continues to inspire us all.

This is a free-form mix and mingle event that provides the opportunity to meet other young professionals in their 20’s and 30’s from a variety of industries. Happy hour beverages and snacks will be provided by our host.

Tumbleweed Art Collective features an artisan boutique, classrooms and studio space. The boutique features handmade and locally made work. Our boutique is constantly evolving and adding new creations daily. Come see all of the talent in our community!  The classrooms are available for Artists/Makers to teach classes and hold workshops. We are adding new classes all the time so check in often for class availability.  For those interested in dedicated studio space, spots are available to set up a studio space of your own. The Flower Bin recently celebrated their 50th anniversary and won the Longmont Chamber Legacy Business Award in 2020! ✨ Be sure to visit them for all your gardening needs this spring. 🌷

I, Amy Ellis, am the designer, maker and creative behind Tumbleweed Studio & Tumbleweed Art Collective.

I immensely enjoy creating the many ideas that float into my consciousness. Currently, my favorite media to explore are clay, paper, fabric, metal and found objects.
Growing up around a junkyard and in and out of local auction houses, I’ve always had a deep love for all things vintage and funky. My earliest recollection are of my dad taking me to the local drug store where I picked out various unconventional “art supplies” to entertain myself. Beads, string, paperclips... All items were fair game and led to some very interesting creations.

Teenage years consisted of painting, theater, photography, clay, sewing... anything to keep my hands busy. Which eventually led to adulthood, marriage, kids and most importantly Halloween, the ultimate family art project! Out of a growing need for creative expression, Tumbleweed Studio was born at my kitchen table, expanded into a room of my own, and now has blossomed into my biggest endeavor yet, the Tumbleweed Art Collective.

Keynote speakers include leadership from the State Demographer’s office and FNBO.

When asked who would benefit the most from People Powered, Greg Totten, Economist at the State Demography Office, responded: “All businesses will benefit from this information. Changes in the workforce, particularly with trends around aging, retirements, and
net migration, mean that the relationship between jobs and people is changing. These dynamics matter to businesses that serve customers in Colorado as well as those that employees in the state.”
